Considering, that there are hundreds of brands, all offering a variety of watches, both in terms of functionality and price, buying a watch may not be as easy as it seem, especially if you are looking for a high end brand one. Still, with a little research and ‘homework’ you will most definitely find the watch that fits your need – and budget.  Just remember to keep your needs and requirements in mind and not to fall for something just because it’s the latest buzz.

If your budget is limited, but you still want to buy a brand name watch, consider buying used or vintage watch. Obviously, buying a second hand watch has its advantages as well as disadvantages. On the plus side, you can save a lot of money. The danger is that you probably will get only limited warranty. If that’s the case, make sure you have the watch inspected before purchasing it, and if possible, buy it from a local vendor.

You can also find lots of vintage and luxury watches on auction sites like Ebay, as well as live auctions that may in your area. You can also search through antique stores, thrift shops and flea markets. Sometime you can find a nice used watch at such a good price that there’s little risk involved.

Today’s watches typically do much more than just tell time. Of course, if you’re a minimalist you can still find an old fashioned watch with two hands, six numbers and nothing else. In fact, lot of old fashioned brands, such as Cartier watches or even Rolex still use this type of minimalist design. However, you can also find watches that tell you just about anything you might want to know, from the day of the week to the phase of the moon. You can also get chronograph watches that can be used as a stopwatch if you’re involved in sporting events. Other watches have tachymeters, which can tell you your speed and the distance you’ve covered.

When buying a watch, especially a brand new one, you should carefully consider the warranty that comes with it. This obviously is more of an issue when you’re spending many thousands of dollars on a watch than if you’re buying one for ten dollars. In most cases, the warranty will only be valid if you buy the watch from an authorized seller, so if you buy a watch on Ebay, you’re most likely going to have to trust the seller. Also keep in mind that warranties don’t include all conditions, and they usually have limits. For example, if you go swimming with a watch that’s not guaranteed to be waterproof, you can’t expect the manufacturer to repair or replace it for you.

This article only touched on some of the basics of buying luxury watches. There are many more factors to consider before making the purchase. Still, the main thing to remember, that you must know what you are buying, and be in control of the buying process. Do not fall for ‘sweet talk’ of the salesman. Stick to your research and budget, and you won’t suffer buyer’s regret.
