Wearing a Ring on Right Hand: A Girl’s Perspective

I was out at a bar the other night, and I started chatting to a woman.  She was very sharply dressed, and quite a lot of fun to boot.  She had an air of confidence I wasn’t entirely familiar with.  I got chatting to her about the massive ring she was wearing on her right hand.  It was made out of three different types of gold – green, white and red gold, in a very intricate design, and encrusted with a number of very large stones, which she assured me were diamonds.

The stones in her right hand ring almost seemed like they weren’t held in place, like they were almost glued to the ring.  I asked her how that was possible, and she explained to me that there is a whole lot of new stone cutting and placing technology which lets jewellers do so many new things, that even in the recent past they could not.

She explained that the ring had been designed from scratch from (apparently) one of the top jewellers in town, and that it was one of a kind.  I asked her who had it done for her, and she said that she had had it commissioned her self.  I was astounded at the lavish expression of what I assumed was her wealth and status, and, never shy about saying what I think, I said this to her.

She didn’t even get mildly offended.  She simply explained that the trend of wearing a ring on Right Hand has become very fashionable among successful women, so she decided that she simply had to have one and set about getting one made.

Apparently the trend of right hand rings is all the rage at the moment.  She explained that if you read any tabloid magazine (which I don’t), that you’ll see everyone from Rihanna to Madonna, even the president of the united states has had one made (by the president himself!).  And because these people set the fashion now days, it is quite common for these trends to spread to the rest of the world.

A woman wearing a right hand ring can be quite intimidating for a lot of guys, assuming that they know what it means.  If you’re dating a woman who is more successful than you are, and is demonstrating it with her jewellery, some men can be quite turned off by this.  But some can be quite turned on too…

The Sunburst Clock: Shine a Light on Your Wall

A clock is just a simple indicator of time.  24 hours, 60 seconds, three or more hands, constantly ticking. It somehow makes you wonder why timepieces, especially wristwatches, can cost more than a family sedan.  The irony of it?  Indeed, time is gold but priceless.  It is so important that once you lose a nanosecond, you can never have it back.  And there is something in the sunburst clock design that delves on a deeper meaning such as time.

The design resembles the rays of the sun.  For people in the know, this gives out an impression of positivity.  Its rays point in all directions, encompassing space in its entirety.  The rays apparently represent a positive energy.  Governed by esthetic principles, sunburst clock designs have evolved with time as well.

While there are a lot of designs to choose from, sunburst clocks have remained competitive in the market.  Prices range from double-digit figures to hundreds.  If owning one is part of your plan, going for the gold is okay.  Settling for a pricey piece is not that bad a decision especially if you plan to have it for a long term, or for as long as it defines style in a room and doesn’t spoil the other aspects of design.  If well taken care of, you only have to worry about the batteries.

There are thousands of other large wall clock designs, but these are plain designs.  There is nothing attached to it, just a piece of artwork.  The sunburst alone displays an eclectic line.  But they fall short in meaning.  It is hard to find meaning in simple things these days.  People are too preoccupied to compete with time before it runs out.  But a simple clock had the capacity to penetrate through what is essential and set aside its material value just by its outline.
